Reported. Based on reported deaths. Deaths are reported strike by strike, in news coverage of each strike. Methodology last updated .
People killed or missing in U.S. military strikes on boats off South America since September 2025, counted strike by strike, with sources.
This represents deaths due to military interdiction at sea during peacetime.
This is an experimental counter.
The U.S. has begun a campaign of attacking and destroying non-military vessels in the seas around South America. "Interdiction" can refer to any attempt to intercept and stop a target traveling by land, sea, or air, whether lethal or not. But as of November 2025 all such interdictions have been direct strikes intended to destroy vessels at sea.
The introduction of this counter is experimental because it's not clear that this category is well defined and unambiguous enough to provide meaningful information.
(This was formerly the "military assassination" counter, but that designation is more properly used when attacking specific named targets.)
There is no formal process for collecting this information and collection did not start until 2025-09-02.
Strike data is compiled from the Wikipedia table listed below (volunteer-maintained, citing contemporaneous news reporting); each strike's article link is verified against the incident's date, theater, and casualty count before publication.
We encourage the submission of incidents fitting this criteria.
